Type by speaking on a Chromebook (dictation)

Chromebooks support a feature called Dictation, which allows you to type by speaking into the microphone. Turn it on using the following steps:

 

  1. Open the app launcher (the circle icon in the bottom left), then find the Settings app:

     
  2. Tap or click Accessibility on the left, then select Keyboard and text input:


     
  3. Enable Dictation near the top of that screen:


     

Now you can talk to type in any text box by first clicking the microphone icon in the lower right (shown below) or by pressing 🔍 Search + D.
